Fandom Auction

More than 500 people are now known to have died in floods in south-eastern Brazil, the country's worst natural disaster for several decades. (BBC UK)
The extent of the human tragedy is as as yet unknown in southern Brazil as landslides leave many buried under thousands of tons on mud, many towns are without water, power, communication & emergency services.

RPF fans did you know there was a news community? handbasketnews

Still need to leave feedback for my yuletide fic and finish reading it. Every time I go onto AO3 the website seems to crash. I'm wondering if it doesn't like me.

I got lots of money for Christmas, maybe I can pick up a new job before it runs out.

Help Pakistan

A fandom auction set up to help Pakistan recover from the 2010 floods, which, as of August 16th have displaced over 20 million people, 6 million of whom have still not received any aid.

Inspired by the [info]help_haiti auction, we're here to spread awareness and help, and show once again that fandom is downright amazing at this.

Writing Woes

I hate editing.

And why the hell am I writing kink fic? Het at that.

And why is this taking so long??? I need to crack on with the big bang fic which still has the second week of Wimbledon left to write.

And why the heck have I signed up for another big bang?

Self inflicted that it is.

Why are the wretched things not in a straight line? Why? Why? I think I must be an evil person because I'm quite enjoying torturing characters. More than being nice to them. I have no ideas for the other bingo I signed up to.

The more time I spend on the internet the more I am surprised by people. I really don't understand the folks in a certain satirical community. There is a line over which you do not cross with regards to fandom and real life. Why do you constantly wish to cross this line? Especially in this fandom. Maybe they're all a bunch of twelve year olds. It is the only way to explain how you think it is ok to tweet a real life person a link to a certain secrets comm. Where there are probably secrets about that person. And then the deletion of the post when everyone told you it WAS NOT ok? I wouldn't be surprised if people stopped writing fic and started locking anything they have already written down.

Australia has a Welsh PM? Who's female? Since when?

So I can look forward to a £1000 increase in my tax allowance. Yay. A pay freeze if my pay is over £21K because I work in the evil public sector. Does that include London waiting? Does anyone know? Oh and I can also look forward to a 1 in 4 chance of being made redundant. And taxes are going up. Thanks a lot budget.

Under my desk

So I don't know what happened with the Tennis. I had this really bad feeling of foreboding this afternoon. I did not feel good at all, there was this heavy presence of dread hanging over me before I'd even switched to the bbc website. Then I kept checking the score and not liking what I was seeing. So in the end, I stopped checking because it wasn't good. And I was meant to be working. Anyway this feeling of dread left me around quarter to three - so I don't know what that means. Had the match finished? Did a alternative sporting year gods turn their attention back to the football? I heard North Korea was getting thumped 7 NIL - they obviously needed some help.

Anyway I'm in a happy place not knowing the score. I'm avoiding the bbc website, newspaper websites, the news, the radio etc. I'm sure my curiosity will get the better of me sooner or later. I'll see how long I manage to keep from searching to see if He Who Shall Not Be Named had a Graf moment. When Graf got knocked out by Laurie McNeil in the first round when she was defending champion, I hated McNeil sfm. I would watch her to see if someone knocked her out. My mother liked her but she hated tennis so what does she know. Still to this very day just her name sets my teeth on edge. Beat my favourite I hate you forever!

Positives of he who shall not be named being knocked out - Less points to defend next year. Which can only be a good thing. Seriously. Stalkerazzi pictures, more time to practice for the US Open
Negatives of HWSNBN being knocked out - British Media not shutting the fuck up about it and Muzza, dropping further down the rankings

If a certain tennis player has been knocked out then Roddick had better get his arse in gear.

Sex & The City 2

That's two and a half hours of my life I will not get back. What on earth was the point of that film? From what I could tell those that liked it had never watched the series with any regularity. The characters have regressed if that was at all possible. Shallow, shallow, shallow. It wasn't particularly funny either.

First Scandal of the Coalition

I'm even more lacking in sympathy for David Laws than I was last night. If you are a closeted multi-millionaire politician why exactly are you claiming taxpayers money to pay rent to your lover (who you don't view as your partner because you don't have a joint bank account or joint circle of friends)? Yes ok it wasn't against the rules when you started but was it morally right? What would the man on the street have thought of that arrangement? If you want privacy why claim at all? Its not like you need the money. It is interesting that his claims for utilities etc went down quite substantially once he had to provide receipts.

The Torygraph has been sitting on this story for a very long time, the question is why. And how did they find out that Laws was living with a lover? If they hadn't even told close friends or family? Was it a guess? I know people are blaming Campbell, I agree it's a possibility but I don't think it was him. I hope for Laws' & the Coalition's sake that he hasn't got any other skeletons in his closet. It's 50/50 whether he's going to survive this one, another scandal might tip it over the balance into resignation.

It's a real shame because he's got more financial experience in his little finger than the Chancellor has in his entire body. We do actually need him at the Treasury.

Why didn't he admit this during the witch hunt last year? Surely he must have been a bit worried? The more I think about this the more annoyed I get. Obviously money doesn't buy common sense or a moral compass.

I'll just leave this here

Search Engine

I happened to be searching livejournal for a UK politics community because I seem to be obsessed by it at the moment. Found uk_lolitics . As the name suggests it is a bit of an irreverent look at UK politics.

While browsing the various entries stumbled across a link for the lolitics anonymous fic meme  After (accidentially) clicking the link I discovered that one pairing appears to be extremely popular. They have been open about a week or so and seem to have over 600 comments. Who knew that UK Political RPF was so popular?
Now I read and enjoyed Virginia Andrews as much as the next person but this is some really fucked up shit. I could not read the article. The headline and pictures disturbed me.

'I'm in love with my grandson and we're having a baby': The story that's too weird even for the web... but is it true?

PR Rant

From the comments on the bbc politics blog
Has no one recognised that under PR we would now have 12 BNP MP's, true democracy but surely not a result those advocating PR would desire! Or would their votes not count?

See this is the reason I like FPTP. I can't think of anything more awful than us having more BNP in the inner workings of government. Its bad enough the loony EU voting system gave them seats in the EU parliament. (Yes there are councillors but that is more down to nobody bothering to vote but the fascist and the folks they have convinced that they are not fascists) I don't like PR. I don't like backroom dealing between politicians, you can never get rid of the blighters under PR. It will break the link with my local MP.

Election Junk Mail

The other day I got a leaflet from the BNP - why do they always look like inbred yokels? And a leaflet about "Vociferous Voting" from some Muslim person. Couldn't for the life of work out whether he was telling Muslims to vote or not. I must admit I'm a bit shocked to see the BNP in my very multicultural area. Still if the government and the mainstream parties addressed people's worries maybe there wouldn't be quite so many BNP votes flying around.
I'm not heard from my MP as to why I should vote for him. I thought they were supposed to respond to your emails? Another lie then.
Still not sure who I'm going to vote for. Really don't want the Lib Dem scumbag to get in.

Facebook Privacy Violations (again)

Facebook appears to be down for me. So I'll just post the warning here, just in case it comes back up:

FACEBOOK is at it again...violating your personal information: As of today, there is a new privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-facebook websites and it is automatically set to "Allow." Go to Account > Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites and uncheck "Allow".

I'm so glad I set Facebook up with a pen name.

Lib Dem Scumbag

Ugh. I get home to junk mail from the Lib-Dem Scumbag of a prospective MP - only needs a 4% swing. I went to see him once - he's also a councillor. He promised to do all sorts of wonderful things to help me out.  I'm still waiting for the help he promised - this was a few years ago. I have not forgotten this. He will not get my vote. I will vote for the person most likely to keep him out, to make sure he stays out. SCUM.
